Fun with van Dijks

The van Dijk clan drove up from Utah to spend a fun week with us. We spent a day at Hood River wind surfing. It's so much harder than it looks . . . or maybe I'm a wimp now, hum. . .no, it's kind of hard! Stephen wins the rock star wind surfer award, but Erica & I didn't do so bad! The kids had fun playing in the sand and throwing rocks into the water.

The next few days were spent in Victoria, Canada. A few of the highlights were the ferry rides. The kids ran around being pirates. . . Arrgh, and we got a brief glimpse of an Orca (Killer) Whale on the way over to Canada. While in Victoria we visited the Butterfly garden, a really cool indoor tropical garden. (Mom you would have loved it!) Tons of gorgeous tropical flowers, butterflies, birds, and a few flamingos. The kids didn't do their best to stay out of trouble, but we did our best to stay out of the guides' sight. I think Ziek ate a few flowers and leaves and Ryan & Kalli were definitely not taking a hands off approach. The Butchart Gardens (beautiful outdoor gardens) was more of the same for the kids. Jeff's favorite sight was the Craigdarroch Castle, amazing wood work and beautiful stained glass windows! My favorite and I think Ryan's favorite was the Children's Farm, hanging out with goats. There were so many baby goats that we were able to pet and play with. They especially loved to try to eat our clothes. Another cool stop was the Royal British Columbia Museum.

We did a quick breeze through Seattle on the way home to check out the Fisherman's Warf and Pike's Place Market. Then said good-bye to the van Dijks and stayed the night with Jason & Kirsten before trekking back home. The kids did surprisingly well with all the travel and day trips. Maren especially loved being carried ALL day and getting to sleep in the front pack. Something that has taken a few not fun days to break her of. Thanks for the good times van Dijks and to Jason & Kirsten for your hospitality! Next year, same time different adventure! (Larsen's you need to make it out next time, no excuses!)

So fun Kunkels! You forgot to mention the incredibly awesome and FREEZING open air bus tour of lovely Victoria. Also the super cool underwater adventure boat...okay that was pretty dumb, but the cool part was when we finally coaxed the kiddies out of the gift shop we got to see a cute harbor seal. What a great trip all together! We love you and your cute babies!
